- The Opening – regardless of the purpose of the interview, it is quite essential that the opening of the interview be handled carefully, because what happens during the few minutes of the opening determines the rest of the interview. Time should not be waste on opening, their should be a rapport and an introduction of the main points. The opening should always depend on the nature of the interview. The following should be taken care of in the opening:
– Summarise the problem facing both parties especially when the interviewee knows that the problem exist but not aware of the details
– Explain how you (interviewer) discover the problem
– Ask for advice or help regarding the problem
– Suggest a possible advantage to the interviewee of solving the problem by accepting your proposal
– Open the interview with a starling or striking fact
– Refer to the interviewee’s known view of the particular problem
– Refer to the background , cause, origin of the problem with starting the problem itself
– State the name of the person who sent you to the interviewee
– Ask for the person’s time to conduct the interview
– Start the interview by asking questions and such questions may be direst, leading to answer or anticipatory etc
